Elizabeth transformations

Elizabeth - The Golden Age

Cate Blanchett who played Elizabeth in the film shaved her hairline and bleached the front bits back which left her with bits sticking out which she had to pin back. Her Eyelashes and eyebrows were also bleached to go with the pale redhead look. Cate worse extremely heavy theatrical wigs which limited her movement.
Jenny Shircore was the hair & make up designer who worked with the costume designer Alexandra Byrne to create make up looks according to the colour of the costumes which started of with very soft and light colours to show her youth and elegance and then changed into darker greens and purples as she aged, which also influenced the make up.

Jenny Shircore went for a natural look when showing Elizabeth as a 17 which showed her purity alongside her white gowns and dresses and also the long hair.
As Elizabeth aged her make up became more pasty and unnatural looking to show that she was iconic.

Fire Over England

Flora Robson also played Elizabeth I in the Fire Over England and had to undergo a massive transformation.

Flora's eyebrows were shaved and penciled in very thin which was a different approach from other make up designers since instead of bleaching it and having natural eyebrows they completely shaved it off and penciled in thin which gave a flapper twist to it to show a normal Elizabethan woman. Her skin was very matte. The wigs she wore had a lot of pearls and jewels.
